Three ways to wear a casual shirt

By Highness · Indore, Madhya Pradesh

A casual shirt can do more than one job. You can wear it as the main piece, open over a tee or tucked into trousers. Start with one shirt you already like and change the surrounding proportions before deciding that you need another outfit.

Wear it open over a simple tee

Keep the inner layer straightforward so the open shirt reads clearly. Check that the tee neckline sits comfortably and that neither hem creates an awkward line. Straight pants are an easy starting point. If both the shirt and tee are loose, try a cleaner bottom shape to keep the outfit from feeling crowded.

Leave it untucked for an easy shape

Look at the hem before choosing this option. Some shirts have a long curved tail intended to tuck in; others finish neatly when worn loose. Check the side view as well as the front. Roll sleeves only if they stay comfortable and do not form a tight band around the arm.

Tuck it in when you want a cleaner line

Try a full tuck with trousers that sit securely at the waist. Move around and sit before judging the result: a tuck that looks good only when you stand still is not very useful. If the shirt billows too much, compare a different cut rather than pulling the waistband tighter.

Repeat the outfit with small changes

Change one thing at a time: the inner tee, trouser colour or a simple accessory. This makes it easier to see what actually improves the combination. Photograph the versions you like for reference. An outfit you can repeat without thought is often more valuable than a complicated look that takes twenty minutes to assemble.
