How to choose a T-shirt fit you will actually wear

By Highness · Indore, Madhya Pradesh

Regular, relaxed and oversized describe an intention, not a universal measurement. Two tees with the same label can sit very differently. To choose well, look at the outline on your body and the way the T-shirt works with the bottoms you already wear.

Check the shoulders first

On a conventional fit, the shoulder seam often sits near the edge of the shoulder. A dropped seam can be intentional on a relaxed tee. Neither position is automatically right or wrong. Check whether the sleeve hangs cleanly and whether the fabric pulls when you move your arms forward.

Look at length with your usual bottoms

Try the tee with trousers at the height you normally wear them. A longer body may look right untucked with a straight leg, while a shorter tee can balance a wider bottom. Raise your arms and sit down. The right length should still feel comfortable during these ordinary movements.

Oversized does not simply mean sizing up

A deliberately oversized pattern can change shoulder width, sleeve length and body shape together. Buying a larger regular tee may add unwanted length without creating that same outline. Compare garment measurements where available. If they are missing, do not assume that a size up will deliver the look you want.

Use a favourite tee as a reference

Lay a well-fitting tee flat without stretching it. Measure across the chest and from the shoulder to the hem, then record how you measured. Compare those garment measurements with the seller’s method. Check the care label before deciding whether any possible change after washing would affect your preferred fit.
