Choosing everyday socks: fit, length and care
By Highness · Indore, Madhya Pradesh
Socks are easy to treat as an afterthought until a seam rubs or a heel keeps slipping. A useful pair should fit the shoe as well as the foot. Check the size range, construction and intended use before choosing solely by colour.

Start with the stated size range
Look for the shoe-size system used by the seller and compare it with your own. A broad range may fit different feet differently. The heel should sit in the intended place without leaving excess material underfoot. If the toe area feels pulled tight or the sock bunches inside a shoe, try a different size or shape.
Match the length to your shoes and outfit
A crew sock creates a visible band above a low shoe; a shorter pair changes that line. Try the combination with the trousers you expect to wear. Check the cuff for comfort during a normal day. Do not assume that a tighter cuff is necessary just because a loose pair has slipped before.
Follow the care label on the pair
Care instructions depend on the materials and construction. GINETEX explains that the number in a wash-tub symbol gives a maximum washing temperature, while bars below the tub indicate a gentler process. Use the instructions attached to your actual socks rather than applying one universal setting to every pair in the drawer.
Make a small rotation easier to use
Keep pairs together after they are fully dry and separate any that need repair or replacement. Choose colours that work with the shoes you wear most often. Buying several identical pairs can simplify matching, but first wear and wash one pair to check whether its fit and care routine suit you.
